The Details;  Getting Started

Often it can be very daunting starting something completely new. Our introductory course has been designed for those with little or no experience in woodworking. They are designed to give you the  confidence and an understanding of the tolerances used to create fine furniture.

Emphasis is placed on mastering basic hand techniques and working with various timber species. By the end of the introduction course you will have made a beautifully unique chopping board, and be competent in tuning and using a hand plane, gluing, sharpening, sanding and finishing.

And After That?

At the conclusion of the introductory course, most students opt to continue their classes. Once you have grasped the basic principles, we then look at more advanced techniques such as hand cut dovetails, mortice and tenons and other complicated joinery. Classes will also focus on the use of machinery to supplement the hand techniques you are mastering.
In the advanced classes you will also be introduced to the challenges of furniture design and construction, and will be encouraged to design and make your own pieces. Due to our small class size (max 6), teachers are always on hand to guide you along each step.
